DOLORES SAXTON-WALKER SCHOLARSHIP
For over four decades, the Dolores Saxton-Walker scholarship has served as a catalyst for empowering high-achieving and well-rounded students from minority backgrounds within the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system.
Qualifications
Students from all CPS schools are invited to apply, and the scholarship is open to scholars pursuing any higher education degree. Qualifications include:
- Minimum 3.5 GPA (Proof by transcript)
- Currently enrolled in Chicago Public Schools
- Interest in entrepreneurship
- Mandatory participation in Interview and Awards luncheon in 2027
- Parent or Guardian signed consent
- Provide at least one Letter of recommendation
- Planning to attend a four year college (Provide college acceptance letter)
History
Dolores Saxton-Walker was not just an entrepreneur, but a beacon of inspiration within the community and the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council (ChicagoMSDC). Her unwavering dedication to fostering future entrepreneurs has left an indelible mark on the mission of ChicagoMSDC. In commemoration of her legacy, the Dolores Saxton-Walker Scholarship Fund was started in 1979. Each year, ChicagoMSDC’s annual fundraiser, the Jim Osborne Scholarship Classic, raises funds to support these scholarships.
Initially awarding scholarships to six deserving students annually, each receiving $3,000 towards their college education, ChicagoMSDC is proud to share that our support has expanded significantly. Over the years, this scholarship has provided over $650,000 in financial assistance. This underscores our steadfast commitment to nurturing future leaders in business, industry, and government.
