The nation’s only legal defense organization dedicated solely to defending the rights of minority business enterprises (Small Business) and minority entrepreneurs
Small BusinessLDEF is raising money now in a new capital campaign led by Small BusinessLDEF’s Chairman of the Board, Don Roberts of Caracal Products and Services, to continue our fight for fairness on behalf of all minority-owned businesses.
Small BusinessLDEF was created to ensure equal treatment for minority business enterprises (Small Business). Founded in 1980 by the late Congressman Parren Mitchell (D-MD), Small BusinessLDEF has been a tireless watchdog for the legal interest of Small Business for over 40 years. We fight for the laws and policies that allow Small Business to thrive, compete and contribute to the global economy.
A leader in legal advocacy, Small BusinessLDEF is THE leader in fighting anti-Small Business legal challenges.
Small BusinessLDEF provides non-partisan education and research to help stakeholders design and defend programs that promote fairness.
Small BusinessLDEF promotes collaboration among Small Business groups by providing briefings and working as an early warning against legal attacks.
We must act now
Small BusinessLDEF is fighting well-funded, well-organized extremist legal organizations determined to eliminate business diversity programs. These groups have friendly-sounding names, but they are anything but friendly. They include America First Legal, the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, the Pacific Legal Foundation, the Center for Individual Rights, the National Center for Policy Research, Do No Harm, the American Alliance for Equal Rights and the Alliance for Fair Board Recruitment. These anti-diversity legal groups work through intimidation, threats, lawsuits, and political pressure. They hope to stop all efforts to support Small Business and end all DEI initiatives. The last time they attempted a similar push on these issues in the 1990s, approximately half of the existing Small Business programs were shut down. Our concern is that today’s new extremist legal foundations have limitless financial resources.
Small BusinessLDEF NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The Chicago Small Business Development Council (ChicagoMSDC) has committed to supporting Small BusinessLDEF in raising funds to build the capacity of its staff and legal team to fight the ongoing legal battles threatening supplier diversity. While diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) overall is under assault, supplier diversity initiatives are the most vulnerable. Fifty (50) years of progress is at stake.
